We are always interested in discussing project ideas and helping postdocs to secure independent fellowships and research funds in any of our primary research areas: insect neurobiology, farmed or wild insect welfare, or insect thermal physiology. We welcome the opportunity to discuss potential applications to programs like NSF, USDA, Marie Curie, Human Frontiers, Life Science Research Foundation, etc. postdoctoral fellowship programs.

We are currently recruiting - if you're interested, get in touch!
IUI offers both MSc and PhD programs in Biology. At this time, funding is available to support a new PhD student working on farmed insect welfare in 2025 - interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Barrett. Applications for the PhD program are due Jan 1, with a final deadline of March 1. Applications for the MS are due April 1.
A lack of prior experience in insect welfare or neuroscience research areas should not discourage a genuinely interested student from applying. I am most eager to work with motivated people who are excited to engage in research and service that can positively impact our understanding of insects’ senses and experiences.

At this time, the Barrett lab is accepting a limited number of undergraduate student researchers as we continue to build our research program. Please contact meghbarr@iu.edu to discuss your interest and potential opportunities.

Barrett is especially interested in supporting mentees in the process of developing their own independent research projects, within the scope of the program. While potential lab members should consider our ongoing body of work by exploring our research program, they should feel free to propose projects of highest interest to them.
